Mars Retrograde March 1st through May 19, 2014

By Psychic Astrologer Janet Moon

In astrology Mars rules our energy and our sex drives, and in mythology, Mars is the god of war. He is the lower octave of Pluto. Mars is the ruler of Aries, and he symbolizes new beginnings and a feisty temper. Mars gives us our reason to get out of bed and get dressed in the mornings. Mars breathes life into situations and then puts them against the backdrop of time to animate our world. When Mars is afflicted, jealousy, resentment, envy, and rivalry rear their ugly heads.

When a planet is in retrograde, it is lining up next to us (the Earth) on our solar race track. Much like passing a car on the highway, there is a period of time where the planet (auto) appears to be moving backward. Because the planet is very close to the Earth, its gravity has more influence on us. Planets outside of our orbit (Mars through Pluto) appear brightly in the night sky when they are in retrograde.

Retrograde is always a great time for viewing Mars. The red planet should be rising shortly after the Sun sets as his retrograde begins, and then rise earlier and earlier each day. Mars will continue to rise earlier after his retrograde ends, but his rate will slow. And, his distance from us will increase, so he won't be as bright in the sky. Mars' retrograde only happens about once every two years, so be sure to take a moment to look up at the bright red dot in the night sky.

Some of us may notice that our energy is low during a Mars retrograde. Others may still have plenty of energy, but the projects they begin tend to fail, or at least end much differently than they intended. Mars' retrograde can generate quite a bit of confusion, and that confusion can twist the outcome of the story of our lives. The "underdog" is more likely to succeed during this time. False starts and hard work are also usually associated with a Mars retrograde. I, personally, have noticed that most of my rechargeable batteries need to be replaced during Mars' retrograde.

This year Mars will be doing his entire retrograde in the sign of Libra, and people with dominate Libra in their charts may find this time to be more difficult than the rest of us. Libra rules love and relationships, but she also governs money, beauty, and comfort. Libra is the diplomat of the zodiac, and she specializes in manners, courtesy, and small talk. Mars traveling retrograde in Libra may keep many of us switching sides. We could have trouble distinguishing what is really fair and equitable, so we will keep changing our behavior in an attempt to achieve some illusion of balance in our lives. Relationships may sit on the see-saw at this time too… he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, etc. Libra loves comfort and the finer things in life, and Mars' retrograde may encourage many of us to become extravagant. Ask yourself twice, "Do I really need this?" before making any major purchases. And, of course, Mars in Libra will bring out the physical side of love. Erotic entertainment and romance may become more interesting to us during thi s Mars' retrograde.

Mars will be arguing with Venus as his retrograde begins on March 1st. This argument could energize Venus' love of opulence. We may be tempted to indulge ourselves, or even invest in some crazy scheme. Mars and Venus should separate after about four or five days, and outside of aspects with the Moon and a few quick winks from Mercury, the Sun, and Venus, most of March should be typical Mars retrograde kind of days (energy confused or sluggish).

Early in April, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto will be lining up to create a T-square (very difficult aspect), bringing disappointment, betrayal, and strife to many of us. Mars will also be well on his way to adding the fourth dimension to this T-square, forming a grand cross (the most difficult aspect in astrology), which will hit its climax around April 21st through the 23rd. We also have eclipses coming in April, so Mars' retrograde will be just one ingredient in this recipe. But, it is a very, very important ingredient. The lunar eclipse on April 15th will also be in Libra, and that could really get this grand cross "rocking!" There could be all kinds of misdirected and misunderstood energy flying about leading to accidents and possible tragedies throughout most of April but especially around the time of the lunar eclipse.

By May 1st, Mars will have enough distance from the grand cross that it will be of no influence anymore, and life should return to a more typical Mar's retrograde. Mars will have to deal with one quick opposition from Venus on May 10th, bringing impositions and hurt feelings to the foreground, but the rest of the month should be without any big incidents. We may find that, after all the turmoil in April, our energy is low. It would be an excellent time to schedule some time off and even take a relaxing vacation, if that is possible. Mars will turn direct on May 19th, and often the day of direct station is the most difficult day of any retrograde. Luckily there won't be any planets aspecting Mars while he turns around, but there could still be some issues to deal with.

Mars' retrograde will begin at 28 degrees Libra and end at 9 degrees Libra. If you have any planets or power points (ascendant, nadir, descendant, mid-heaven) in cardinal signs (Libra, Capricorn, Aries, Cancer), this retrograde will probably be more difficult for you, depending upon the planet(s) or power point(s). If you would like to know more details about how Mar's retrograde will affect you, consult your favorite astrologer.

Astrology Forecast for March 2014

By Psychic Astrologer Janet Moon

General Tendencies for All Sun Signs

Mars retrograde will probably be the big event for March. We might find that our energy is low, and projects we begin could end up much differently than we anticipated. Saturn will also turn retrograde and Jupiter will turn direct, so we may notice that some areas of our life are ending, and some are reawakening. Jupiter and Uranus will maintain, and even strengthen, their conflict throughout this month. Most of our day to day routines should go fine, but there could be a subconscious nagging, and even a few outbursts before March ends.

March will begin on a Saturday under the Pisces New Moon (unless you are west of Pacific time, then the New Moon will be late February 28th).

About eight hours later, Mars will turn retrograde. Then, on Sunday morning, March 2nd, Saturn will turn retrograde. The whole weekend could be a fit of starts and stops. Our judgement could be off, and there could be problems with authority figures. A speeding ticket is very possible, so try not to push your luck too far. Think twice before making any major purchases, because Venus will be pushing Mars to extravagance through Sunday evening.

The week of March 3rd begins with the Sun and Pluto shaking hands, encouraging community activities. Staff meetings, sales calls, and interviews in general should go well. Our moods will probably calm on Fat Tuesday, March 3rd, after the Moon enters methodical Taurus, but we may get some very bright ideas when Venus enters Aquarius on Wednesday afternoon.

Jupiter will be turning direct on Thursday, March 6th, so we may find ourselves dealing with bad-luck or restrictions in general on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, March 5th through the 7th. Jupiter will spend most of this month getting turned around and will not move much, so Sag's don't get too excited yet. It could be two or three weeks before you really notice your life is moving forward again.

The weekend of March 7th begins under the Gemini Moon approaching its second quarter. The quarter Moons usually bring stable emotions, and Gemini will surely keep us busy. Friday and Saturday will be excellent days for games, short trips, and conversations. Daylight savings time will begin early Sunday morning, March 9th, and a few hours later the Moon will enter home loving Cancer. It will be a good day for family, and food, and readjusting to the earlier schedule.

Insecurity and stubborn behavior will be in the air as the week of March 10th begins. The Cancer Moon will get caught on the battleground of Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto, and Mercury will find himself being disciplined by Saturn. Closed-minded thinking is probable, and emotional outbursts are possible on Monday.

Things should begin to improve on Tuesday, March 11th. The Moon will enter Leo Tuesday night, and many will be in the mood to "play" on Wednesday and Thursday, March 12th and 13th. The Sun will be shaking hands with Saturn as the week ends, and this could inspire business transactions and good-luck with authority figures.

The Moon will enter Virgo, ruled by Mercury, on Friday, March 14th, and Mercury will be dancing with Mars. Our minds will be quick, and conversations will be sharp and to the point. It's also going to be a great weekend for cleaning, organizing, and getting into the details of any project.

The Virgo Moon will wax to a Full Moon on Sunday afternoon, March 16th. The Sun and Mars will also be out of sorts on that day, so we may find our energy comes in bursts, and our moods could be a bit critical.

The Moon will be in diplomatic Libra as the week of March 17th begins, but Venus, the ruler of Libra, and Jupiter will not be seeing eye to eye. There could be family or relationship problems to deal with as Monday, St. Patrick's Day, begins, but Venus' mood will quickly change as she approaches a short dance with Uranus. Any arguments should dissipate, and our thoughts will become more peaceful before the day ends. Tuesday should turn out to be a much more balanced day, and the Moon will enter passionate Scorpio on Wednesday, March 19th.

The Moon will still be transiting Scorpio as the Sun enters Aries on Thursday, March 20th, the first day of Spring. We may be really ready to start something new, but the tension between Jupiter and Uranus may also be becoming more noticeable around that time. Some of us could be zealously going in the wrong direction. It may be a good time to check and make sure you are still on course with your goals.

The Moon will enter optimistic Sagittarius, but Mercury will be undermining Neptune bringing confused thoughts as the weekend of March 21st begins. We might really be in the mood to get out and enjoy life, but our approach to it could be all wrong. Addictive behaviors may be prominent, and stupidity is possible through Saturday night, March 22nd.

With the Moon going void of course on Sunday morning, there is a possibility our minds will focus upon artistic or spiritual thoughts. But by Sunday afternoon, the Moon will enter Capricorn, and it will bed at its stabilizing fourth quarter. We will be ready to tackle even the biggest problems as the weekend ends.

The Capricorn Moon will be battling with the outer giants, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto as the week of March 24th begins. "Blue Monday," may cross our thoughts as we start our work week, but by afternoon, we should notice it's business as usual.

We have another void of course Moon coming Tuesday, March 25th. We may not feel much like talking, but it's quite probable that we will find our work very rewarding on Tuesday and Wednesday. Try to work alone on Tuesday, and share with the team on Wednesday after the Moon has entered Aquarius.

The Moon will be void of course again for most of the day on Thursday, March 27th. It would be another good day to work alone, especially on creative projects.

The weekend of March 28th will begin with Venus whispering secrets to Mars while throwing rocks at Saturn. The Moon will be in intuitive Pisces, so if we can be still and listen to the rhythm of our lives, we may actually have a great weekend. If not, we may find ourselves being hurtful and sarcastic toward loved ones, and we could be placing our values and beliefs above others.

Our moods should change drastically by Saturday evening when the Moon enters Aries. We may be ready to focus on ourselves and new beginnings. The Aries Moon will reach its New Moon phase Sunday afternoon, March 30th, and we could really want to start something then. But, it is also likely we will encounter hurdles and challenges most of the day, so it's going to be so very important to stay focused and flexible.

The Aries Moon will be in a slightly better mood as the month ends and the week begins on Monday, March 31st, but it will be going void of course one more time this month later that afternoon. It may be a good idea to be ready to put some plans on hold. We will be in a much better situation to deal with those plans on Tuesday, April 1st.

We have a major planetary aspect involving four outer planets and two eclipses coming in April. The surf will be up and the ride could be rough. Check back next month to find out more.

Mercury in Aquarius Retrograde Feb. 6 - 28, 2014

By Psychic Astrologer Janet Moon

Mercury is a very small, but dense, planet that orbits the Sun about every 88 days and turns retrograde three or four times per year. All the major planets, except the Sun and Moon, turn retrograde, but none turn retrograde as often as Mercury. That's why you hear us astrologers chirping about Mercury's retrograde so much.

When a planet turns retrograde either we (the Earth) are passing it, or it is passing us on our solar race track. And, just like when you pass a car on the highway, for a short period of time, the planet (auto) appears to be moving backwards. So, when a planet is in retrograde, it is closer to the Earth than it is in other parts of its orbit. Because the planet is so close to us, it's gravitational pull will have a stronger influence on our personalities.

Mercury is the ruler of communication and travel, and that includes internet connections. In general, when Mercury is in retrograde, travel delays are likely, and car problems are also possible. Mercury can upset computers, so be sure to back-up any important files on your hard drive. Misunderstandings are feasible in personal and professional relationships, so you may want to double check messages. When a planet is in retrograde, it encourages us to look at the past. Old friends are prone to reconnect during a Mercury retrograde, and lost lovers are more inclined to return. It's also a great time for ghost hunting, because the veil between us and the other side thins during a Mercury retrograde.

The title of this article states Mercury's retrograde will be in Aquarius, but it will actually begin in Pisces on February 6th. The retrograde will begin while Mercury is conjunct Neptune (the ruler of Pisces), and that could mystify things for a day or two. Neptune and Pisces govern psychic intuition, the arts, and helping the less fortunate, therefore Mercury's retrograde could begin with a "magical mystical" flare. Intuitions in general will be sharper, but confusion is also possible. We may find that, as Mercury's retrograde begins, our thoughts lean toward a more idealist realm. Neptune also rules addictions, and some of us may slide into our addictive behaviors.

It will only take six days for Mercury to return to Aquarius. He will reenter Aquarius on February 13th, just in time for Valentine's Day. Mercury always passes between us and the Sun during his retrograde, so the Sun and Mercury will be encouraging us to do something different this Valentine's Day (Aquarians love the unique). If you have been holding back on the idea of contacting a lost lover, this would be an excellent time to take a leap of faith and give it a try. It is very likely the outcome will surprise you. In another part of the zodiac, Jupiter and Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) will be amplifying crazy ideas. Be careful not to get too sui generis with your Valentine's Day plans, or you may end up shocking your special someone.

Mercury will cross the Sun on his way to becoming a morning star on February 16th while receiving energizing rays from Mars. Our minds will be alert and quick during that time, but some of us may press our luck a little too far, because Jupiter and Uranus will be continuing to encourage "half baked" behaviors. Be sure to "beta test" any ideas before presenting them to the boss.

Things could get tense on February 18th and 19th as Mercury picks a fight with Saturn. People may get very stubborn, and some of the negative idiosyncrasies identified with Mercury's retrograde, like travel problems and miscommunications, could become prominent. The possibility of problems could get increasingly stronger after Mercury leaves Saturn's influence, even though it will be no fault of Mercury's. Some may find themselves zealously chasing their tails from February 20th through the 26th with Jupiter and Uranus coming to the climax of their battle. Some (of the ignorant) will blame Mercury.

Mercury will turn direct (direct station) on February 28th, and direct station is usually the most difficult period of any planet's retrograde. Luckily there won't be any planetary influences to magnify Mercury's direction change, but it is likely that we will find ourselves dealing with minor problems (most of them will be only minor). Confidence will be high on that day, because of the Sun dancing with Jupiter, so we should be able to take any set-backs in stride.

Okay, now time for the technical part. Get our your natal chart! Mercury's retrograde will travel from 3 degrees Pisces, on February 6th, to 18 degrees Aquarius, on February 28th. First, check to see which house or houses his retrograde will transit. This will tell you what areas of your life will be affected. For example, Mercury's retrograde, traveling through one's 4th house of home and family, may bring a household repair to the surface. Or there could be an issue with one of the kids, or even a parent.

Second, will Mercury be crossing over any natal planets or power points (ascendant, descendant, nadir, mid-heaven) during his retrograde? If the answer is yes, there could be specific problems to deal with, depending upon which planet or point is crossed. At this point, if you're not sure what I'm talking about, with your chart in your hand, contact an astrologer. We can quickly answer any specific questions you have about how Mercury's retrograde will affect you. It's also a great way to learn astrology.

Many in our culture have a negative attitude about Mercury's retrograde, and it is true that many bad things have happened during a Mercury retrograde, like the stock market crash. But, Mercury's retrograde also has many positive qualities, and it's important to keep an open mind.
