New Moon in Virgo - August 28, 2011

By Maayan Medzini

The new moon takes place on August 28,2011, 08:04pm Pacific Time, 5th degree of Virgo.

New Moons are a good time to concentrate on seeding. Take a look at your chart, locate the 5th degree of Virgo (by house) and think what you would like to bring in into this area of your life. This is a good time to connect with your shadow, or less known parts of yourself, and communicate. You can get insights, and you can be very practical in your seeking for what you want.

For everybody, this is the time to reflect upon the Virgo influence in your life.

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)

Virgo represents the energy of doing what needs to be done. While living on earth, we have to take care of our bodies, of our surrounding, help to set the stage for what we want, take care of the children, old and sick. All the mundane activities are under the rule of this sign. This energy is not sexy, it's not dramatic, but when it lacks in life, the impact is huge.

In esoteric Astrology, Virgo is the sign that nurtures, protects and makes room for the Soul to be born. The purpose of a person with Virgo is to discriminate the right methods and the right time and place for that birth. It is also responsible for supplying the correct living conditions for good growth.

Mercury is the ruler of Virgo, representing the ability to handle all the small details that together make-up life - the ability to separate different components, study them with care, and make improvements. It's not that Virgos want to be so critical; it is just so plain in their sight how things can be better.

Virgo is a mutable sign, and therefore as stubborn as they seem, they actually do change according to the environment they are in. They will always attempt to improve it, to keep it in good working order. Changes are easier for them than for many other signs.

The Horoscope of the New Moon in Virgo this month shows rivaling forces assessing each other. The Sun/Moon are in good aspects to Pluto in Capricorn, and Jupiter in Taurus, forming an earth signs triangle: the energies of hope (Jupiter) and clearing (Pluto) can aid in doing the appropriate thing, even if it means that humility is in order (Virgo).

At the same time, Mars in Cancer, squaring Saturn, which is Sesquiquadrate to Neptune, make us all feel like we are not as strong as we thought we were; we will all feel vulnerable and unable to stand up for ourselves. The way to act is to negotiate, buy time, while each side is trying to figure out what they really want.

The Yod configuration with mercury (ruler of Virgo) in Sesquiquadrate* to both Pluto and Uranus in Aries keeps adding to the frustration. Again, it is hard for anyone to understand what they want; we all feel that we want something new, some new venture to come in and take us out of this mess, but we don't know what and why.

This time is right for doing all things that were put off: fixing the broken tools, furniture, cleaning a garage, going to the doctor, and putting the mind into the mundane details that make up life, getting some order into them. The sense of safety will come from that.

*Sesquiquadrate- a 135° angle, which basically tells us that these two planetary energies expect to get along well, but find out that they don't.
