Pesticide Watch Alert

This newsletter just in from Paul S. Towers, State Director of PesticideWatch.org:
____________

Dear Tara,

Today, I asked readers of the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, among other newspapers, to:
Imagine the possibility of a pesticide drifting onto farmworkers, children on playgrounds, and getting into groundwater.

This pesticide, methyl iodide, has been linked to thyroid cancers, miscarriages, and adverse neurological effects. And unfortunately, pesticide companies are pressuring the Governor and state agencies to legalize the chemical within the next three weeks.

Help us stand up to pesticide companies.

We're facing opposition from deep pockets and decision-makers are facing intense pressure from the company Arysta LifeScience, the largest privately-held pesticide company in the world.

The good news is we've been able to help stop methyl iodide from being registered in the state over the past few months, but now we are down to the wire. And we've been able to do so because numerous world-class scientists, including 5 Nobel Laureates, have publicly expressed opposition to the chemical.

Support our efforts to protect California communities
Now we need your support. We won't ever have the resources pesticide pushers like Arysta LifeScience, but with your support and science on our side, we do stand a chance.

Sincerely,
Paul S. Towers
State Director
